Description: The Health Information Management Professional I is responsible for reviewing patient records for the purpose of classifying diagnoses and interventions, collecting and maintaining patient data. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Graduate from a Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM) recognized program for Health Information Management Professionals required. Registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) is required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of current Canadian Coding Standards and Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and National Ambulatory Care Reporting Standards (NACRS) Abstracting Manuals for the collection of diagnoses, interventions and specific data elements. Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development. Ability to work independently with strong organizational, time management, analytical, and technical skills to effectively handle demands of workload and deadlines, working effectively under pressure and showing good judgment. Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) Ability to work with minimal supervision under considerable stress. Able to work as a team member to achieve area and department goals. Demonstrated ongoing professional and personal development. Knowledge of the Health Information Act.

Preferred Qualifications:

1-year minimum coding experience with ICD-10-CA/CCI. Consideration given to those who have not coded within 2 years but have a certificate from a CCHIM approved Coding Refresher or Coding Specialist Program. Experience with Connect Care (EPIC) & 3M HDM abstracting system. Certified Coding & Classification Specialist (CCCS) certification with CCHIM.
