Position:

The Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario (CCSEO) at Kingston Health Sciences Centre invites applications for a permanent, full-time Medical Physicist. This position offers the opportunity to join a comprehensive radiation oncology program with a strong commitment to quality, education, innovation, and collaboration. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality patient care while helping to advance clinical practice, teaching, and research within an integrated academic health sciences environment.

CCSEO delivers a wide variety of radiation therapy treatments supported by four Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, GE and Philips CT simulators, an Xstrahl orthovoltage unit, a fully integrated ARIA/Eclipse treatment planning and radiation oncology information system, and an Elekta Flexitron HDR brachytherapy treatment unit with Oncentra planning systems. The brachytherapy program at CCSEO treats a wide range of disease sites, including prostate, gynecological, esophageal, lung, and breast cancers.

The successful candidate will join a strong clinical team consisting of five medical physicists, two physics residents, and technical support staff. Clinical duties may include quality assurance, chart checking, physics support for both external beam and brachytherapy procedures, collaboration with dosimetrists and radiation oncologists, and support for the implementation of new techniques and clinical protocols. The role also includes involvement in the specification, acceptance testing, commissioning, calibration, and ongoing support of radiation therapy equipment, as well as providing imaging and informatics expertise for computer systems and information technology infrastructure within the Radiation Program.

Medical Physicists at CCSEO are actively involved in clinical teaching for radiation oncology residents and radiation therapy trainees and as part of the CCSEO CAMPEP medical physics residency training program. An academic appointment in the Department of Oncology at Queen’s University may be sought, with possible cross-appointment to the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy. Opportunities exist for undergraduate teaching and research project supervision, and engagement in clinical, translational, and basic research projects aligned with the candidate’s interests.

Qualifications for the position include an MSc or PhD in Medical Physics, and completion of a CAMPEP accredited residency training program in Radiation Oncology Physics. Certification in the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) or equivalent is preferred. In addition, the candidate should have strong organizational and excellent oral and written communication skills.
