Salary range for the position is $106,026 to $152,413. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you make an impact?

The Manager, Medical Staff Retention and Experience oversees the development, measurement, and sustainment of an IH-wide Medical Staff Retention Strategy. Working in partnership with corporate and clinical leaders, the Manager is responsible for providing leadership for activities that support creating a welcoming workplace for medical staff, including those focused on creating a culture of connection and shared optimism; leadership development; and proactive communication between direct care staff, sites and senior leadership. The Manager is responsible for all aspects of planning, organizing and directing staff and activities in these areas, including representing IH when engaging with partner organizations and communities.

The Manager is accountable for effectively addressing medical staff experience and retention issues that cross programs, portfolios, and geographic lines by implementing initiatives, projects and/or programs that support medical staff retention and experience, present and compassionate leadership development, and collaborative change processes as well as quality improvement activities related to medical staff retention.

What will you work on?

  • Leads the planning, implementation and completion of IH-wide policies, strategies, and procedures that are aligned with best practices and related to medical staff experience and retention.

  • Works with partners to understand the medical staff experience journey from candidacy to retirement, including identifying the instruments/tools needed to gather critical data and intelligence, turning that information into actionable insights, and supporting leaders across IH to continually improve that experience – with and for our people.

  • Enables adherence to provincial and national standards and guidelines, while advancing retention and experience efforts through idea generation, planning, design, implementation, and evaluation.

  • Establishes and implements meaningful metrics and reports for a range of audiences. Develops capacity and approaches to organize and mobilize our data in support of strategic programs, which will drive positive change within the organization.

  • Leads the design, development and integration of key medical staff experience initiatives and solutions into leadership development processes and programs, in order to attract, develop and retain the best talent.

  • Facilitates effective communication and serves as a liaison between Interior Health, the medical staff, and external partners including:
o Consults and collaborates with medical staff, communities, external organizations, and partners to improve engagement and effective communication.
o Participating and leading committees/working groups as assigned.
o Promoting and communicating Medicine portfolio priorities to medical staff and senior leadership across IH.

  • Works collaboratively with members of the Medicine Portfolio and the Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee (HAMAC) on matters relating to medical staff, retention and experience.

  • Recruits, hires, supervises, and provides leadership to staff through coaching, guiding, and modeling key behaviours/strategies, encouraging dialogue, and providing guidance and advice to facilitate resolutions to work issues. Assists team members in defining shared and individual goals, meeting target dates, and ensuring alignment of team goals with customer needs. Fosters team spirit, trust, and mutual respect.

  • Develops and manages an assigned budget, including annual planning of expenditures within assigned budget, and related financial tracking, and reporting.

  • Travels to IH sites to provide on-site guidance, hold meetings, medical staff feedback sessions.

  • In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience
  • a Bachelor’s degree in a health field with relevant experience may be considered.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of recent, related experience, including a minimum of five years of experience working with members of the medical staff specific to experience, engagement, and improvement.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
