- Participate and collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care.
- Effectively use the Standards of nursing practice and the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- Provide health teaching to patients and family.
- Compliant with legislation, and organizational and departmental policies, standards, and procedures.
- Maintain commitment to self-growth and professional development.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Remain current in knowledge and application of best practice through the utilization of appropriate research and literature.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement and risk management activities.
- Participate in research opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
- Current certification in venipuncture (I.V. therapy).
- Medical experience recent within the last 5 years
- Meet physical demands of the job, including extended standing, walking, lifting and climbing using proper technique.
- Willingness to cross train in all areas of the Maternal Child Program.
- Human relations skills including empathy, sensitivity, understanding of human and organizational behavior, motivational techniques and counseling skills (e.g. teaching patients).
- Competence in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
- Knowledge of patient care requirements and specialized equipment as appropriate to the clinical area.
- Working knowledge and understanding of the standards of practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.
- Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
- Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
- Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
