Job Title: System Analyst, Senior

Job Summary

The System Analyst, Senior position, works with the business and IT Management to implement high quality, robust, scalable and cost effective business systems/applications and defining system scope and objectives based on user needs and devising or modifying procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results. Additional responsibilities include preparing detailed specifications from which programs will be written and evaluated and revise existing system logic difficulties, documentation and release management as necessary. 

Responsibility

  • Defines scope and objectives on assigned projects.  
  • Prepares functional process charts to analyze business operations.  
  • Gathers and documents business requirements. 
  • Assists with the design of business process and documentation.  
  • Responsible for project budgets. 
  • Follows PPLM (Project & Product Linamar Methodology) on all Projects.  
  • Performs a lead role in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new business applications and enhancements to existing business applications.  
  • Meet with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business requirements and goals, identify and resolve business issues; and document accordingly. 
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems. 
  • Review and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems. 
  • Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions. 
  • Create systems models, specifications, diagrams and charts to provide direction to application developers. 
  • Create system design proposals. 
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems. 
  • Conduct research on hardware and software products to justify recommendations and support purchasing efforts. 
  • Completes project and system support documentation to specifications. 
  • Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems. 
  • Translates users and / or system requirements into functional technical specifications. 
  • Assess the suitability of database platforms and software applications. 
  • Meets with clients to discuss topics such as project activities, technical specifications, current business practices, growth plans, regulatory and reporting requirements and security risks. 
  • Mentors Junior and Intermediate System Analysts. 

Academic/Educational Requirements

  • Post-Secondary Education in Computer Science, Information Sciences, Management Information Systems, Business Administration or related field. 
  • PMI PMP certification or relevant courses as needed. 

Required Skills/Experience

  • Minimum six years in a System Analyst, Project Lead or Business Analyst role. 
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems, or products. 
  • Ability to interpret process flow charts. 
  • Strong documentation and critical thinking skills. 
  • Check calculations on supplier invoices and approve payments. 
  • Confirm quantities, prices and amounts, check tax calculations and verify totals before paying invoices. 
  • Knowledge of development tools and languages 
  • Must have in-depth understanding of Project Management and Product Management best practices and have the ability to manage products and releases.
  • Strategic & Systems Thinking by producing clear current-state vs. future-state maps; frames decisions in terms of outcomes and constraints.
  • Stakeholder & Communication Excellence by writing strong decision memos; runs effective workshops; converts abstract inputs into actionable direction.
  • Discovery & Requirements Mastery: Elicitation (interviews, workshops), framing (epics/features/user stories/use cases), and validation (prototypes, demos).
  • Traceability from business objectives → requirements → acceptance criteria → test cases.
  • Delivery & Execution: Agile/Lean principles, backlog management, prioritization (value vs effort vs risk), risk mitigation and maintains a clear roadmap, dependency board, and release plan with transparent trade-offs.
  • Ability to make presentations to other information technology professionals and senior management. 
  • Ability to work independently but may also work on teams with project leaders, software developers and subject matter experts as needed. 
  • Knowledge of business applications and ERP systems (i.e., SAP, IFS, JD Edwards)  
  • Knowledge / Experience with Microsoft SQL, SSIS, Power BI and / or Oracle database  
  • Engage in continuous learning to keep up with changes by reading industry magazines, brochures, journals, attending conferences and workshops, and taking courses such as graphics and database programming. 

Candidates must be able to work on-site in Guelph, ON a minimum of 3 days per week and up to 5 days as required.
