Unit/Project Description: The Education Program in Anatomy is proud to support the Health Sciences programs within the Faculty of Health Sciences. As part of Education Services, the EPA provides teaching and learning to learners in the following programs; Undergraduate and Post-Graduate Medical Education, Honours Health Sciences, Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences, Midwifery, Physician Assistant, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology. The EPA supports these programs by striving for excellence in everything we do.
We are seeking an Instructional Resource Assistant to support the anatomy lab in the delivery of anatomy curriculum. This role works with faculty, staff, learners, and other stakeholders and is essential to providing operational excellence.
Job Summary: Responsible for scheduling, organizing, and coordinating resources in the teaching laboratory. Requires a thorough understanding of established functions, policies, and procedures to ensure students and Faculty comply with Anatomy Laboratory rules. Ensures the cleanliness of the teaching laboratory and assesses the condition of cadaveric materials.
Purpose and Key Functions:
- Organize, coordinate and maintain resources for the teaching laboratory.
- Provide Faculty, staff, and students with appropriate teaching material as specified by the instructor.
- Liaise with Faculty and staff to ensure resources meet teaching needs.
- Assist Faculty and staff with the preparation and set up of equipment, space and supplies for laboratories and tutorial sessions.
- Meet with potential users of facility to determine sectional needs and develop budget to ensure cost recovery.
- Evaluate room bookings and adjust schedules based on operational needs.
- Write a variety of documents such as procedure manuals, correspondence, and reports.
- Input, maintain, and verify information in a variety of databases and spreadsheets.
- Mix the moistening fluids for moistening the cadaveric materials based on specific formulae.
- Ensure that all laboratory waste is disposed of according to established policies and procedures.
- Train others on proper lab techniques, operation of laboratory equipment, proper handling of wet, blocked and plastinated specimens, and use of AV equipment.
- Operate, adjust, and maintain a variety of equipment and instruments.
- Troubleshoot equipment and perform minor repairs. Ensure major repair requests are escalated to the appropriate area.
- Assess the need for laboratory equipment and provide recommendations for the acquisition of materials and equipment.
- Calibrate laboratory equipment according to established calibration standards.
Supervision:
- No formal supervision of others is required.
- Provide orientation and show procedures to others
Qualifications:
- Community College Diploma in a relevant field of study.
- Requires 2 years of relevant experience.
Assets:
- Strong adaptability and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments.
- Proficiency and experience working within the Microsoft 365 environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively across teams.
Additional Information:
In addition, an established knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology will be required from the successful incumbent for this role.
This position may require you to travel and to work outside of your regular work schedule including evenings and weekends to meet operational demands.
