Western Grater Contracting, part of Norland Limited, is a highly specialized contractor serving Vancouver Island. Our services include blasting and slope stabilization, drilling, shoring and shotcrete shoring, grouting and anchors. Our experienced team delivers safe and efficient solutions for technically challenging excavation and construction projects, maintaining the highest standards of safety and client satisfaction.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist Project Managers in their day-to-day activities, project budgets, schedules, procurement, billing and Change Orders.
  • Participate in Project Management roundtables and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Capture project progress through photos, prepare reports, and assist with health & safety, quality, environmental considerations, and quantity measurement.
  • Coordinate with Forepersons to ensure accurate daily crew reports for payroll and equipment time processing, analyze job costs, and contribute to budget forecasting.
  • Work with the procurement team to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of materials and services.
  • Track project correspondence, monitor daily job costs, and update project schedules as needed.
  • Manage administrative functions related to health & safety, quality control, subcontractor progress, scheduling, and tracking key project details.
  • Provide Field Review assistance to Project Managers.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to develop, assess, and enhance project management and operations systems.
  • Promote a safe and healthy work environment across Norland sites and offices • Assist Estimators with daily tasks, project initiatives, and participate in estimate reviews and bid wrap-up processes.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs, solicit quotes, perform comparative table analyses, develop Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), and enter estimates into bid software
  • Support the Estimating Manager in maintaining and updating the bid list.

Qualifications & Skills:

Compensation:

  • Post-Secondary Education: Degree or diploma in Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work in both office and field settings.
  • Comfortable working under deadlines and managing high-pressure situations.
  • Open to occasional work outside of regular hours to meet business needs.
  • Valid class 5 licence required.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in interacting with teams • Strong work ethic with a proactive and eager-to-learn attitude.

The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical salary range of $62,000-70,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, and experience.
