Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
A part-time academic is required to teach INTD 3002.03 -Development Practices, in the winter term of the 2026-27 academic year, January 01 – April 30, 2027.
The part-time academic is responsible for all aspects of teaching, grading and administration of the class, including the required tutorials. In addition, the part-time academic is to be available for two hours per week outside of class time for student consultation. The part-time academic reports to the Chair of the IDS Department. The expectation is that this course will be taught in-person.
This course is designed for third year undergraduate students who are considering a career in international development. The course will introduce students to the policy and funding context for international cooperation (government and civil society), community-based approaches to sustainable development, analysis of the rapidly-changing international environment and challenge students to re-think how change is created and measured. Throughout the course, students will practice professional skills – beginning with a self-assessment of their current knowledge, skills and competencies – followed by in-class engagement & assignments designed to develop new competencies. This includes taking individual initiative on an issue of interest and as well as groupwork on an international development project proposal. As a practice-based course, it involves presentations, seminar discussions, participatory workshops and guest practitioner speakers. Key elements include self-reflection, collaborative critical analysis, and peer learning to enhance professional writing (policy briefs & project funding proposals), data analysis, monitoring, evaluation & learning (MEL), collaboration and communication skills.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
- University degree in International Development Studies or a closely related discipline.
- Significant practical, teaching and research experience in development planning, development project design and administration, proposal writing, and project monitoring and evaluation is required.
