The Business Quality Specialist will be responsible for collecting and submitting reliable data to the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP). You will accomplish this through high quality data compilation, understanding of the data collected in relation to the NSQIP program, while documenting and entering into the ACS NSQIP database all eligible surgeries at Southlake Regional Health Centre. You will work closely with the members of Surgical Services to identify and lead opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified. The successful candidate will be required to complete and pass all modules of the certification examination.

What you bring:

  • Minimum two (2) year health care diploma or degree preferred
  • A minimum of three (3) year of experience in a health information, Hospital, or acute perioperative room environment is preferred
  • Previous experience with quality improvement/patient safety initiatives with an understanding of current best practice in order to understand the Quality Improvement initiatives
  • Previous experience with chart review and abstraction experience is required - must demonstrate a strong understanding of the Meditech or equivalent system for this chart review
  • Data entry skills with a strong comfort level using MS Word and Excel, experience with PowerPoint and Access is required
  • Ability to work with all levels within the hospital, from staff to patients and families, to build relationships, gain clinical support and ensure the success of this program
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills with strong time management while working within defined deadlines
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills and the ability to apply to a variety of information and situations
  • Strong understanding and statistical knowledge is preferred
  • Exceptional confidentiality and privacy while dealing with patient information
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal
