Associate Lawyer - Labour and Employment at Toronto Lawyers Association

Cunningham Swan LLP is looking for a skilled and dynamic lawyer to join our Labour and Employment practice group. Experience or interest in litigation is essential.

Our firm is the largest in southeastern Ontario, with over 35 lawyers and a broad client base that includes large public sector institutions as well as both large and small private sector businesses. We provide our clients with a full array of services, which facilitates collaboration and the development of expertise. Our lawyers are skillful and pragmatic, our work is complex and intellectually engaging, and our working environment is supportive and collegial.

Our Labour and Employment group consists of three Partners, two Associates and excellent support staff. We provide primarily management-side services. We deal with both employment and labour issues, under provincial and federal jurisdiction, as well as health, education and privacy law. Our lawyers appear before administrative tribunals such as the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and the Ontario Labour Relations Board, represent clients at arbitrations, and argue in court at all levels. We also assist clients with collective bargaining, occupational health and safety issues, workplace investigations, employment standards compliance and policy development. We have deep and long-standing relationships with our clients, who rely on us to navigate issues that are especially complicated, high stakes or high profile.

Our Labour and Employment group is looking for a junior or mid-level Associate to join them.

The Successful Candidate Must

• be able to competently navigate complicated situations and provide rational, practical,

and strategic advice;

• have sound judgement and excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• take initiative, be able to work independently, and want to be a key contributing member

of our team;

• possess exceptional time management and organizational skills, and be able to balance

competing priorities and meet tight deadlines in a demanding legal environment;

• either have litigation experience or a strong interest in litigation; and
• demonstrate high levels of professionalism and integrity.

The firm offers a competitive compensation ($100,000 to $150,000 depending on experience) and benefits package.
