Position Information

Temporary until approximately January 05, 2026.

This position will involve working in Long-term Care Homes, Retirement Homes and other Congregate Living Settings/Homes. There is no work onsite at TOH.

Rotation/Shifts

Days, 8 hour shifts.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Health Sciences related field AND certified or registered in base health sciences field (e.g., Registered Nurse, Medical Laboratory Technologist);
  • Four (4) years clinical experience in relevant discipline;
  • Experience in Infection Control relating to surveillance, outbreak management, adult education principles, consultation, occupational health, research and policy development and/or successful completion of an 80-hour IPAC Canada endorsed Infection Control courses;
  • Current certification in associate infection prevention and control (a-IPC) AND will obtain certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 3 years of entry into the profession and maintain certification;
  • Knowledge and understanding of patient care practices;
  • Knowledge of the Infectious Disease process;
  • Familiarity with the regulatory bodies and legislative requirements that impact the Infection Control practice;
  • Experience working with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision;
  • Ability to drive to multiple locations throughout the work day;
  • Ability to engage, coach and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholder groups (including but not limited to public health unit, congregate living settings, staff, provincial organizations, etc., as required);
  • Ability to summarize activities in the form of electronic reports;
  • Ability to apply IPAC judgement, expertise and troubleshoot issues in-the-moment;
  • Ability to discern significant IPAC risk and escalate as necessary;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to multi-task;
  • Superior written, verbal and presentation skills;


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's in health sciences (e.g., Nursing, Epidemiology, Public Health);
  • Experience in Infection Control in acute care settings;
  • Current certification in Infection Control (CIC)
  • Additional graduate courses in epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases and statistics;
  • Proficiency in English and French oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
