Job Description

The Marine Personnel Analyst checks, verifies and processes payment, overtime and premium pay claims and allocates the account codes for Labour costs to the correct accounts for Seaspan ULC and Seaspan Ferries. This role focuses on analyzing payroll data.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 10 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. This is an 18-month limited term employment with eligible benefits.

What You'll Do

  • Checks and verifies all information (time worked, rates, tugs, etc.) on overtime, premium pay and working by timesheets submitted for payment commensurate with the Collective Agreement requirements. Deletes and corrects mis-claims also advising the employee.
  • Allocates account codes for Labour costs to the appropriate vessel or Revenue Centre accounts, enters data into computerized payroll system, answers enquires regarding claims that affects payment of wages.
  • Enters training and conference hours and assists in entering overtime in the system.
  • Completes cost analysis for the engineering and port captain departments.
  • As required, prepares and analyses’ overtime reports, time utilization, wage cost etc.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


What You'll Bring

  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree (Labour relations or Accounting preferred).
  • 2 – 5 years accounting and collective agreements' experience.
  • Experience with JD Edwards is an asset.
  • Advanced level computer skills with ability to work with computer applications such as excel, outlook, database software in a window environment.
  • Knowledge of collective agreements, rules and regulations governing the work performed.
  • Understanding of operational, inter-dependence between human resources, labour relations and payroll.
  • An interest in figures and the ability to attach meaning to such figures.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain an accurate and steady pace in processing a large volume of overtime claims with a strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while dealing with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in working with employee information.

Pay: Starts at $5,475.00/month (rate increases to $5,959.00/month after the probation period)

This is a unionized position and pay rate for this position are set out in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. The rate stated above is the starting rate for this position. It increases after the probationary period and continues to progress over the course of 12 months as per the collective agreement.
