TVO Media Education Group (TVO.me) is a social impact organization at the intersection of digital learning, journalism, and immersive storytelling. As creators of award-winning content, we are on a journey to build a more informed, knowledgeable, and educated Ontario. We are unapologetic about our purpose — everything we do is about inspiring learning that changes lives and enriches communities. That is our why.

A Culture of Inclusion and Belonging

At TVO we welcome the unique contributions that you can bring. We foster an environment where everyone is heard, feels valued and has an equal opportunity to reach their full potential. We are committed to learning, and we learn better together with a diverse team of employees that are respected, valued, and encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work every day. With this goal in mind, at TVO we celebrate individual differences, knowledge, self-expression, and talent. At TVO, we recognize the importance of using anti-oppression practices, both within our organization and in our content.

We encourage applications from those belonging to underrepresented groups as well as all other qualified candidates.

Who We Are

As part of an ambitious new strategic vision, TVO.me is transforming itself and the digital learning and media landscapes. We know we are a better organization when we honour our commitments, when we thrive with diverse voices, when we value bold thinking, and embrace change. We understand and celebrate that we are better together.

We are proud to be named a Greater Toronto Top Employer of 2023, recognized for our work-life balance, mental health supports, company culture and flexibility. This is a testament to the impactful work we do for Ontarians everyday. It is also a reflection of how quickly we have responded to employee feedback about how, when and where they want to work.

The Opportunity

The digital reporter is critical to our journalism, highlighting gaps in the systems that shape the lives of Ontarians and exploring solutions. You’re driven to pursue coverage of everything from health care to education to infrastructure, always with an eye to the human element that makes policy personal. Your reporting would go wherever Ontarians’ tax dollars go and would include strong elements of solutions and accountability journalism.

You’ll seek input from real people in communities and regions across Ontario, examining the issues and reporting on potential solutions. You’ll cover the son in Sudbury who’s trying to help his elderly mother navigate the long-term-care system; you’ll cover the father in Kenora whose child needs mental-health care but can’t get it; you’ll cover the disabled university student in Ottawa who can’t find accessible housing. You’ll cover their stories from a human perspective and hold Ontario’s many systems and institutions to account.

Through text and multimedia reporting, you’ll provide new insights that will resonate with readers from across Ontario. TVO is a learning organization; as such, you’ll also look out for stories that can be repurposed for educational uses. This is a one-year contract position.

How You Will Make An Impact

You have unflagging curiosity about how the systems that structure life in this province work — or don’t work — for Ontarians. You’re driven to identify issues, causes, and possible solutions. You have a keen interest in how these issues play out across the province, not just in the GTA. And you’re committed to investigating where Ontarians’ tax dollars are going and whether they’re getting value for money.

You are well-versed in journalism fundamentals and dedicated to producing thoroughly reported pieces that tell compelling stories. Your copy is clean, and you prioritize filing on time and at a steady pace.

You have an informed sense of the elements of visual storytelling and are skilled in photography.

While you’re confident working independently, you also value the collegiality and strength that collaboration brings. Your journalism is grounded in the standards and best practices of the profession, and you exercise sound judgment but are willing to take creative chances.
