Position Overview

The Manager Professional Practice as a member of an interprofessional leadership team, leads and supports the front line interprofessional staff including: respiratory therapy, social work, physiotherapy, speech-language pathology, kinesiology, occupational therapy and clinical nutrition in the provision of evidence based quality care. This important leadership role is highly visible on the front line and the first point of contact for all operations for this dynamic team. Working in close collaboration with Clinical Managers, Clinical Directors and Clinical Resource Leaders (CRLs), the Manager Professional Practice is accountable for all operational aspects of the health professions portfolio and its human and fiscal resources. The Manager develops, monitors, evaluates and refines systems and structures that support interprofessional and collaborative academic practice care models, optimizes efficiency and addresses community needs in alignment with the interprofessional practice plan and the strategic priorities of the hospital. This leadership role works in partnership with the CRL and supervisor for Professional practice and front line staff to ensure the adoption of best practices to support patient safety and quality patient focused care. TheManager of Professional Practice is attentive to changes in professional college standards and legislative changes and the implications of these for clinical practice, service delivery and staff development.

Education

  • Baccalaureate Degree in a clinical discipline required.
  • Current registration with an Allied Health Professional College/ Association in good standing (RT/OT/PT/SW/SLP/RD/AA).
  • Master's degree in health administration, or leadership required or willing to obtain.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years related clinical experience; at least three years in a supervisory capacity in a hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise within chosen subspecialty.
  • Strong leadership skills including demonstrated skill with planning, implementing, and evaluating change initiatives in an interprofessional milieu.
  • Demonstrated business acumen.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with leaders from several levels to support the development, implementation and evaluation of models for interprofessional practice, education and care delivery.
  • Demonstrated superior problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Sound knowledge of risk management and best practices related to patient and staff safety.
  • Sound knowledge of team development and demonstrated ability to work effectively as both a team member and leader.
  • Sound labour and employee relations skills; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organizational structures and functions.
  • Experience with establishing and maintaining relationships with educational institutions an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with project management an asset.
  • Experience with budget development and variance monitoring an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of computer software including Microsoft office, and clinical documentation required; knowledge of scheduling, payroll and workload managementsystems an asset.
  • Good work and attendance record required.
