Hart House is a centre for experiential education outside the classroom at the University of Toronto. Hart House operates from a historic facility on the St. George campus, as well as a 150-acre farm in Caledon, Ontario, offering a wide range of services through a social enterprise model that generates revenue to support its student-focused programming on all three University of Toronto campuses.

The Facilities department ensures the ongoing operation of physical plant of the House and the Farm Property. This is accomplished through following main streams of performance: Ongoing health and safety of all staff, students, guests and visitors; Regular maintenance and repair of the facility (following these protocols: Compliance / Maintenance / Repair / Restoration / Replacement); Major Capital Project Management; Ongoing collaboration and cooperation with University Partners.

Your opportunity:

The Maintenance and Capital Projects Supervisor will report directly to the Director of Sustainability, Infrastructure and Project Management and will work collaboratively with the Craftsperson Supervisor, Facilities Supervisor, Project Manager (Facilities team), other internal Hart House department stakeholders, as well as skilled trades and capital projects officers at the University to ensure the seamless execution and integration of all maintenance, capital and operational project upgrades.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading renovation projects with varying degrees of complexity
  • Liaising with internal and external contacts to troubleshoot/resolve escalated technical issues
  • Consulting with contacts regarding building improvement/alteration requirements and cost estimates
  • Conducting site visits to inspectwork and ensure adherence to timelines
  • Conducting final inspection of work completed by contractors
  • Responding to and resolving service complaints
  • Ensuring others adhere to legislated regulations for swimming pools
  • Directing the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees all performing a similar function

Essential Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum education requirement of an Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in a related program.
  • Minimum five years experience in a facilities environment supervising complex building renovation and maintenance projects related to energy management, HVAC upgrades and mechanical plumbing renovations; supervisory experience in afacilities or maintenance environment; experience monitoring project budgets.
  • Proven knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, including OHSA and WHMIS, and experience in resolving Health and Safety issues, and with Fire Prevention, Emergency Planning and Emergency Response processes.
  • Demonstrated organizational, prioritization and project management skills. Ability to respond to frequent changing priorities.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, Microsoft 365, Outlook and internet skills.
  • Proven effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to maintain diplomacy and handle information with discretion.
  • Proven collaborative team player.
  • Innovative self-starter.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 14 -- $90,056. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $115,169. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
