Windmill Microlending enables immigrants and refugees to build careers in Canada while reducing poverty and labour shortages. We do this by offering affordable loans along with career assessment coaching, financial literacy training, and mentorship for newcomers who lack access to mainstream credit.
Since 2005, Windmill has provided over 11,000 loans to clients in healthcare, IT, financial services, law, engineering, and many other fields to triple their incomes as a result of our affordable loans and support. Windmill is a registered Canadian charity supported by donations and community bonds from the private sector and grants from the public sector.
Position Overview
The Marketing Communications Coordinator (MarCom Coordinator) will be an integral member of our dynamic Marketing and Communications team, contributing to Windmill’s mission of helping skilled immigrants restart their careers in Canada. You will play a key role in supporting our MarCom Managers, implementing tactics and programs to drive awareness of our organization.
This role offers exciting opportunities for growth and development. You will have the chance to be innovative with social media and write SEO blogs while leveraging AI. Additionally, you will gain valuable experience in data analytics and preparing monthly reports that our managers use to inform decisions. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
The MarCom Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:
Social Media (60%)
- Develop and implement a social media content plan aligned with overall MarCom goals
- Develop and maintain the social media calendar and create, schedule, and manage posts across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn
- Generate high-quality, engaging social media content (including reels) that resonates with the target audience
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. Development, Partnerships) to gather and create content
- Monitor and engage with followers on social media platforms, responding to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely and professional manner
- Use analytics tools to track content performance and make data-driven adjustments
- Conduct research on Windmill’s target audience and similar peer organizations to identify new content ideas
- Identify and track micro-influencers providing advice to newcomers living in Canada
- Keep up-to-date with the latest social media trends, algorithms, and best practices
- Explore new social media platforms and evaluate their potential for the organization
Marketing and Communications (40%)
Client and alumni outreach
- Support client and alumni stories by coordinating interviews (Communications manager will conduct the interviews)
- Coordinate follow-ups and approvals with clients and alumni
- Provide client and alumni stories to internal teams as requested
- Manage a tracker to monitor client and alumni outreach activities and progress
Internal team support
- Assist the MarCom Managers in coordinating donor and partner requests
- Support the internal teams with event promotions
- Utilize Canva to update templated collateral (e.g. flyers, postcards, social media graphics)
- Update quarterly impact sheets (using Canva) with meticulous attention to detail
SEO blogs
- Collaborate with Windmill’s SEO Specialist to identify relevant keywords for creating SEO-optimized blogs
- Utilize AI to write SEO-optimized blogs (6-10 per month)
- Monitor blog performance to refine content
Newsletter
- Layout and format content in Hubspot
- Maintain accurate subscriber lists and remove bounce-backs
- Manage and respond to email inquiries
Monthly analytics and reporting
- Compile a monthly performance report by collecting data from multiple sources
- Provide insightful commentary and actionable recommendations
- Verify that all monthly deliverables for Development and Partnerships are completed
- Deliver monthly performance reports on a timely basis
Administrative tasks
- Manage projects and social media content calendar using Asana
- Monitor Windmill’s marketing and communications email inbox
- Handle the sourcing, purchasing, and inventory management of promotional materials (swag)
- Coordinate business card orders

You are a highly professional and organized individual with a strong attention to detail and a proactive approach. You are open to feedback and continuously strive to improve and grow. These qualities will be essential in this role. You’re excited to collaborate with a team that shares your enthusiasm for elevating our organization’s brand and reputation.
Core Competencies:
- Social media experience in planning and executing engaging content
- Working knowledge of design platforms and content management and analytics tools such as Hootsuite, HubSpot, Meltwater, Canva and Adobe
- Strong attention to detail and committed to accuracy
- Organization skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Proactive in seeking new and creative opportunities to build brand awareness and loyalty
- Able to work independently and as part of a local and national team
- Experience in video editing is an asset
Qualifications:
- Experience: 0 to three years of experience in a marketing, communications, or social media. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply
- Education: Post-secondary education in a related field
- Language skills: Fluency in English (written and verbal). Bilingual in French is an asset
- Portfolio: showcase your work or school projects that demonstrate social media content development, design and/or writing skills
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid work environment in our Calgary, Toronto or Montreal office – minimum 2 days/office, up to 3 days/remote
- Full-time (40 hours/week)
Salary:
- Starting range $45,000-$50,000 annually, based on skills and experience required for the role
