Responsibilities
PRIMARY PURPOSE
In pursuit of making the region a better place to live for everyone, built on transportation excellence, The Enterprise Systems Architect, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) provides technical direction for several programs/projects of high impact, complexity and risk that are highly visible and sensitive in nature such as Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).
The Enterprise Systems Architect, ITS aligns ITS solutions architecture and systems engineering with TransLink’s business and IT strategies, objectives, and plans and assesses the impact of ITS on cross-organizational business areas including people, process, data, and integration with existing technologies, and will also work extensively with third parties (such as those from municipalities) to achieve consensus on data architecture and data models so there is consistency across the Greater Metro Vancouver Area on how ITS will be deployed.
Provides innovative thought leadership, strategic guidance and technology expertise to support business and technology leaders across the enterprise to plan, enable and achieve targeted ITS-related business outcomes through the Bus Rapid Transit Program and its many component programs, projects, initiatives, and technologies.
Using a combination of systems, solutions and project life cycles, the Enterprise Systems Architect, ITS ensures ITS infrastructure and software meet the functional and non-functional requirements within the guidance of TransLink’s Enterprise Architecture strategies, roadmaps, and architectures.
Key Accountabilities
Works closely with BRT Program Management Team and Business Technology Services Division to jointly develop strategic and long-term ITS objectives which meet TransLink business and technology goals. Develops ITS strategies that integrate and advance business and enterprise architecture direction to guide the enterprise through the business, information, process and technology changes required to support the implementation and sustainment of ITS.
Reports functionally to TransLink’s Engineering Division’s Senior Program Manager, Systems Engineering and administratively to TransLink’s Business Technology Services (BTS) Division’s Senior Manager, Enterprise Architecture.
Provides input into a longer-term ITS sustainment model and supports one or more ITS vendors during extended warranty / transition phases to full-time operation model. Also supports thinking / planning for changes required during large-scale special events.
Ensures compliance/sets ITS architecture standards, policies, and principles/direction across all relevant architecture domains and in all BRT programs and projects. Leverages industry standards including ITS Architectures and current technologies and operating data to continuously enhance business practices and project/program efficiency and effectiveness. This includes creating and overseeing budgets for technology investments to ensure alignment with architectural standards and project requirements.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
University degree in Computer Science, or Computer Engineering plus ten (10) years of progressive experience in a client-facing Solution Architect role and recent experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) with significant experience in translating business requirements into an ITS solution.
Other Requirements
Solid leadership skills with ability to manage and influence direct or indirect reporting staff and to provide specialized guidance and expertise to all levels of the organization.
Advanced knowledge of coaching and mentoring teams on Systems Engineering and Solutions Architect concepts and methodology.
Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to develop and manage critical relationships at all levels in the TransLink enterprise and municipalities across the Greater Metro Vancouver Area.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to handle conflict resolution, facilitating discussion and alternatives of different approaches. Advanced business analysis skills and insightfulness to forecast trends.
Superior communication skills (verbal and written) to explain technical concepts to non-technical individuals; Advanced ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively and in a user-friendly manner.
Advanced knowledge of business models, operating models, and risk management.
Expert Negotiation, Influencing Abilities And Conflict Resolutions Skills.
Sound planning, organization, and time management skills. Strong ability to organize competing priorities.
Industry recognized certifications and experience with ITS Architectures, preferably Canadian Architecture Reference for Cooperative and Intelligent Transportation (ARC-IT) including SET-IT/RAD-IT are assets along with current/past Information Technology for Public Transport (ITxPT) association participation.
Other Information
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

37.5 hours per week.

This position offers the flexibility of working both on-site and remotely within B.C.
Rate of Pay
Salary $107,200 - $160,800 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
