The laboratory of Dr. Mayer at the Montreal Heart Institute is seeking passionate PhD candidates to join a dynamic and innovative research team. We offer exciting research projects as part of the PhD program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Université de Montréal.

Research projects

  • Characterization of novel genes involved in lipid metabolism and atherosclerosis
  • Development of therapeutic molecules for the treatment of hyperlipidemia

Joining our team will give you the opportunity to work in a cutting-edge translational research environment. Our lab specializes in molecular and cellular biology and has access to high-tech facilities for imaging and studying animal models of cardiovascular diseases. Our research utilizes various experimental models, including transgenic mice, human cell models, and advanced molecular genetics techniques.

Position description

PhD students will be involved in studying the mechanisms of novel genes related to lipid metabolism, with the goal of contributing to the development of innovative drugs that could improve treatment for patients with hyperlipidemia. Our research aims to translate fundamental discoveries into therapeutic applications for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Job requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, etc.)
  • Proficiency in basic biochemical and molecular biology techniques (cloning, SDS-PAGE, immunoprecipitation, Western Blot, RT-qPCR)
  • Experience with immortalized cell culture, including aseptic techniques and transfection
  • Candidates with a strong academic record, analytical skills, and high motivation to contribute to advancements in cardiovascular biology.

Additional assets

  • Knowledge of RNA-seq, cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, DNA sequence analysis, ELISA, virus production
