Job Overview

The Claims Adjuster, Property (Commercial) contributes to Wawanesa's goals of delivering an exceptional and consistent member experience through the fair and equitable adjustment of low to moderate property claims. This role is responsible for applying and explaining policy coverages and documenting claim files through the life of a claim.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and support to our members, throughout the claims process, by providing exceptional service delivered with empathy
  • Timely and proactive communication, ensuring that all inquiries are effectively dealt with
  • Adjustment of Property claims of low to moderate complexity
  • Review and interpret policy wordings, determine policy coverage, and communicate coverage decisions to members
  • Establish timely and accurate loss and expense reserves through the life of the claim
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations to determine coverages and liability
  • Coordinate and manage services with vendors and service providers
  • Negotiate and convey claim settlements within authority limits
  • Maintain an effective and current diary system and document claim file activities
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of policy coverages, complying with regulatory and licensing requirements
  • Demonstrate skills to review repair estimates and generate entry-level estimates
  • Support CAT plan as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Exceptional customer service skills demonstrating empathy
  • Level 1: 1 year of insurance or customer service experience preferred. Level 2: 1-2 years of insurance adjusting or equivalent
  • Post-secondary degree is preferred
  • Willingness to work toward Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation
  • Experience utilizing computer technology and software required
  • Excellent communication, investigative, and analytical skills
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy regarding data entry
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Good negotiation, decision making, and critical thinking skills
