The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity within the IT / IS Department, for an Application Support Specialist Based in Calgary, this role will report directly to the Manager, IT Infrastructure & Operations and be an integral part of the Corporate Information Technology & Information Systems team. The successful candidate will join a team that values its people and provides work with purpose.

What You Will Do

• Support a variety of desktop applications with a strong focus on the geology, geophysics, and engineering disciplines
• Troubleshoot and resolve incidents and problems related to different desktop applications across the organization
• Facilitate installation, testing, upgrades and patching of applications
• Work closely with other members of the IT Infrastructure team to troubleshoot and optimize desktop hardware, network, storage and other underlying infrastructure technologies to ensure optimal user experience
• Leverage internal ITSM processes and tools (Freshservice) to manage incidents, changes and new requests related to Vermilion’s portfolio of applications
• Engage with vendors to stay current with product / data releases and act as the internal resource for communicating new features and functionality to business stakeholders
• Ensure regular releases are identified and implemented in a timely fashion to maintain product capability
• Proactively raise issues or concerns with the team and IT / IS leadership
• Lead the technical roadmap (upgrades / releases) for applications including end-user evaluations, planning, testing, training, and technical updates
• Act as the service desk escalation point to work with business stakeholders, other IT staff, and vendor support teams to diagnose and resolve application issues
  
  

What You Will Bring

• Minimum five years’ experience as an IT / IS professional in upstream oil and gas, including at least three years’ experience supporting business applications, working directly with business stakeholders
• Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems and with Microsoft 365 suite of products
• Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft based environments (Active Directory, File shares, security groups, permissions etc.)
• Experience supporting a wide range of desktop applications
• Experience with application packaging and deployment tools (MSIX, App-V, SCCM, Intune etc.)
• Experience supporting Geology, Geophysics, and Engineering applications (Petrel, GeoScout, AutoCadd etc.)
• Experience supporting applications within a Virtualized desktop environment (VDI) considered an asset
• Experience supporting applications within a Citrix environment is considered an asset
• Strong communication and excellent interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically, including experience with developing application roadmaps
• Positive and engaging demeanor with a support-oriented mindset
• Ability to work within tight deadlines and competing priorities
