We are currently accepting applications for Utility workers to join our team in Halifax!

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must have the ability to read, write, comprehend and follow through on specific instructions.
  • 1 to 2 years previous utility work experience.
  • Basic food safety training certificate required.
  • Excellent personal health and hygiene.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others.
  • Must be capable of lifting, stooping, reaching, walking, pulling and standing for long periods of time.
  • Food Service Workers Certification an asset.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs at a time, in good general health and able to endure the day-to-day pressures of the position.
  • Must be able to maintain regular and consistent attendance in accordance with the Northwood corporate standard

Major Responsibilities

  • Portering and distribution of food items, hot and cold food carts and other supplies to service sites.
  • Ensuring sanitation of dishes, pots/pans, equipment and kitchen area.

Tasks

  • Operates the dish machine and pot washing machine according to established procedures.
  • Cleans and sanitizes floors, sinks, walls, cooking area drains, doors, counters, carts, work and storage areas.
  • Performs established procedures for pre-preparation of vegetables, defrosting meats (following established defrosting chart), stock control and rotation (using FIFO (first in first out), and ensures safe, appropriate storage and delivery of all food supplies.
  • Accommodates requests from various service sites via the intercom system, walkie-talkie, radio, or telephone, and responds appropriately providing prompt quality meal service.
  • Promptly delivers the dietary aides hot/cold food carts, food items and supplies to the designated service area as scheduled and replenishes supplies during the meal service as deemed necessary.
  • Scrapes, washes and sanitizes all dishes, pots, pans, utensils and food service equipment.
  • Disposes of garbage, compost bins and recycling according to established procedures and maintains the receptacles in a sanitary condition.
  • Complies with department standards, work routines, job requirements and time schedules. Applies quality service and quality control procedures consistently; reports any concerns to Food Service Supervisor.
  • Assists with and performs other related duties as may be requested.

Hours: 84 hours guaranteed (12 hour shifts)

Effective: Immediately

Salary/Benefits: As Per Unifor Collective Agreement.
