Responsibilities
In this position, the candidate will work with Dr. Christopher Hewitt to analyze spatial and demographic patterns of attendees to Airshow London. This will include performing data analysis, regression modeling and cartographic visualization. The candidate will then present the results in an academic paper and poster.
This project will take place over a four and a half month period. In Month 1, the candidate will analyse the literature, access and survey census and election data. Month 2 would be spent writing analytic code and running the analyses. Months 3-4 will be spent on analyzing and preparing the outputs for Airshow London including a poster and a scholarly paper. Drafts would be prepared in Month 3 and presented to the Airshow London’s leadership. Month 4 and the remainder would be spent on finalising the poster and the scholarly paper. The poster will be presented at the Canadian Association of Geographers (CAG) conference in late May 2025.
Qualifications
Education:
- Community College Diploma OR Undergraduate Degree in a related field
- The candidate is expected to have knowledge of programming in Python or R, QGIS, and Cartography.
Experience:
- 1 year of work experience supporting research in a related technical field
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Familiarity with experimental design and analysis
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to follow processes with high attention to detail
- Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
- Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to collect and analyze data in an objective manner
- Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve issues
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
