Lerners is seeking a Legal Assistant to support the Health Law and Personal Injury practice groups in the London, Ontario office. The ideal candidate will have over three (3) years of experience working in a similar position. This is a Hybrid position and requires a minimum of three (3) days in office at 85 Dufferin Avenue or as required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Answering the telephone, scheduling conference calls and appointments.
- Requesting conflict checks, opening and closing files.
- Communicating with clients and the courts.
- Proofreading and formatting lawyers’ correspondence and other documents.
- Filing email correspondence.
- Compiling, serving and filing motion records and other court documents.
- Maintaining calendars and an effective bring forward (BF) system.
- Scheduling examinations for discovery.
- Transcribing dictation.
- Entering dockets and assisting with the preparation of monthly accounts to clients.
- Assisting with the preparation and electronic filing of various court materials (e.g. pleadings, trial records and motion materials).
- Drafting legal documents, correspondence and finalization of correspondence and memos.
- Requesting cheques, paying invoices.
- File maintenance and scanning into DMS (document management system).
Qualifications:
- At least 3 (three) years of experience as a Legal Assistant.
- Experience in health law and/or personal injury is an asset.
- Deep familiarity with the Rules of Civil Procedure, particularly as it pertains to service rules and deadlines.
- A keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- A strong work ethic.
- The ability to work effectively on a team and individually.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with technology and working in a remote/hybrid environment.
- Experience with Primafact, Case Center, ACL, and a Document Management System (iManage) is an asset.
