Position: 0.8 EFT - Indefinite Term position

Fred Douglas Society Inc. is seeking a Nursing Manager to report directly to the Director of Care. This role involves providing leadership and management for the resident care units at Fred Douglas Lodge, ensuring the highest quality of care and continuity for all residents. The Nursing Manager will play an active role in organizational strategic planning and the implementation of approved initiatives to promote best practices in resident care. As a member of the Fred Douglas Lodge Leadership Committee, the Nursing Manager will also participate in team meetings and contribute to the overall leadership and direction of the facility.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical Practice/Resident Care

  • Ensures the utilization of the current nursing process to affect the delivery of safe, quality health care to residents at Fred Douglas Lodge.
  • Functions as a clinical resource to the Nursing Department.
  • Directs plans and coordinates delivery of resident care with members of the health care team to ensure continuity of care.
  • Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to promote quality of life and care for residents of Fred Douglas Lodge.
  • Promotes effective communication with residents, families, staff, external care agencies and care providers.
  • Monitors and evaluates individualized resident care plan initiatives to ensure best practice.

Program and Resource Management

  • Participates in the planning and development of the strategic plan for the Nursing Department.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and advises the Director of Care on trends/issues within the department which are likely to have the most direct impact on services and quality.
  • Contributes to and participates in strategic planning for the Fred Douglas Society (FDS) as requested.
  • Assists with departmental implementation of the strategic plan.
  • Informs the Director of Care of the effects of the strategic plans.
  • Enhances efficiency and cost-effectiveness through participation in unit-based and Fred Douglas Lodge initiatives to improve financial and resident care management.
  • Identifies and reports unit supply and equipment requirements to the Director of Care.

Facility Education and Quality Assurance

  • Development of required educational programs and materials based on best practice standards as available and identified through Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Manitoba Personal Care Home Standards.
  • Implementation and deliverance of required education programs and materials to all members of the interdisciplinary team at Fred Douglas Lodge (Corporate Orientation, Annual Mandatory Education, etc).
  • Maintenance of educational records, documenting facility compliance with best practice standard and staff completion of required ongoing education.
  • Acts as facility lead in the participation of regional and facility quality assurance committees and programs (Infection Control, Workplace Safety & Health, Education, Wound Care, MDS/RAI coordination, etc).

Human Resources Management

  • Ensures adequate staffing levels on a 24-hour basis that meets the operational requirements of the facility considering resident acuity, standard of care, resident and staff safety.
  • In consultation with Human Resources and the Director of Care hires Nursing Department employees in accordance with resident care needs, facility guidelines and contractual obligations.
  • Ensures staff members receive complete orientation to deliver safe resident care.
  • Monitors performance, conducts performance appraisals and counsels employees in accordance with facility guidelines and collective agreements in conjunction/consultation with the Director of Care.

Professionalism

  • Promotes an environment that fosters continuous learning, application of knowledge, critical thinking and application of research.
  • Facilitates research projects as directed.
  • Acts as a leader and role model for staff to further their professional growth.
  • Responsible and accountable for personal and professional continued education and practice enhancement through best practice principles.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all matters about residents, staff, and Society operations.

Education and Qualifications

  • Current registration with CRNM or CRPNM.
  • Baccalaureate of Nursing required; Adult Education Certificate required.
  • Three years of direct experience in long-term care, and a minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Able to obtain satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Adult Abuse Registry clearance.
  • Ability to work effectively in small and large groups.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passionate about senior care and committed to providing the highest level of service.
