What's the Opportunity?
The Category Manager is responsible for analyzing spend across all Aecon Divisions and Joint Venture project and for formulation and execution of strategies for cost structure transformation and cost reduction. The Category Manager is also responsible vendor performance management and contract performance for given categories. The position requires commercial acumen and development of sufficient technical knowledge to professionally manage a category. Familiarity with construction industry and financial concepts is an asset since the results of the position are measured in terms of EBITDA efficiencies (TCO).

What You’ll Do Here
- Responsible for the cost structure transformation across a given category of spend
- Development of category strategy roadmaps that are congruent with Aecon’s competitive strategy
- Ensure a seamless roll-out of category strategy initiatives across the organization that deliver results in-line with the category strategy
- Promote utilization of preferred supplier agreements across all level of Aecon and Joint Venture projects
- Analysis of existing and new industry trends within a given category
- Develop and maintain supplier contracts and responsible for contract performance
- Relationship management with vendors and internal stakeholders
- Responsible for continuous improvement of existing category strategy programs
- Support operational excellence across the organization related to a given category
- Heavy Industrial / Construction Equipment Rentals and Capex
- Small Equipment Rental
- Fuel, including Sustainable Fuels
- Industrial Consumables
- Fleet Vehicle Rental, Lease and Capex
- Office Trailer Complexes
Experience in any of these services is an asset:
- Industrial Building Construction
- Plumbing, Heating, and Air-Conditioning Contractors
- Electrical Contractors and Other Wiring Installation Contractors
- Fabricated Structural Metal Manufacturing
- Water and Sewer Line and Related Structures Construction
- Prefabricated Metal Building and Component Manufacturing
- Power and Communication Line and Related Structures Construction
- Other Foundation, Structure, and Building Exterior Contractors
- Metal Fabrication
- Sheet Metal Work Manufacturing
- Poured Concrete Foundation and Structure Contractors
- Landscaping Services
- Drywall and Insulation Contractors
- Minimum 7 years of experience with Commodity MGMT, Category MGMT or Strategic Sourcing
- University degree in Engineering, Technical Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent
- Knowledge and experience with the construction industry is a definite asset
- Proficiency in all aspects of Category Management
- Strong communication & negotiation skills; ability to distill strategy into a clear, compelling and concise narrative
- Excellent presentation skills
- Ability to build positive working relationships with vendors and internal clients
- Strong proven ability to influence both internally and externally
- Must be politically and organizationally savvy
- Ability to analyze complex data and derive well supported linear and non-linear premises
- Highly conscientious and disciplined, with ability to manage and coordinate competing organizational needs
- Integrative thinker and negotiator; ability to flex his/her style to suit situational contexts
- Ability and willingness to learn technical aspects of categories to the degree required to manage them
- Passion for excellence; demonstrated high goal achievement orientation and a will to win
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment
- Demonstrated, formal problem-solving skills
- Strong computer literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Will accept candidates from various locations, Greater Toronto Area, Waterloo Area or Calgary is preferred
