Arup is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join the PPCM team to support large multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects in Toronto, Canada. The Design Manager will lead a multi-disciplinary team to provide services in the design and construction phase for a range of procurement models including design build, public private partnerships and progressive design builds. These services include validation of design data, development of conceptual designs and finals designs. The Design Manager in general performs the following:

  • Reports to the Project Manager and advises of progress for their respective area
  • Interfaces with client, stakeholders and the contractor
  • Ensures delivery of agreed submittals to contractors and owners
  • Resolves Project Technical issues with a multidisciplinary team

The Design Manager as part of the Arup will have a key role which includes Design Management, multi-disciplinary coordination, technical and compliance reviews.

The opportunity

  • Identifying the appropriate resources necessary to enable the services described above
  • Ensuring the Arup team deliver on time, within budget and in a quality manner
  • Ensuring deliverables are in compliance with technical requirements of any Project Agreement
  • Reporting to the Project Manager and Project Director on project issues
  • Liaising on all project matters with the contractor or owner clients
  • Responsible for leading knowledge capture, and knowledge and skills transfer within their contract
  • Leading the development and overseeing the successful delivery of agreed work plans
  • Providing reporting as needed for the contractor and owner
  • Chairing Working Groups or Technical Meetings as needed
  • Supporting Risk Management activities
  • Identifying and capturing potential scope changes in the change log

Is this role right for you?

  • Over 15 years’ experience in infrastructure engineering/advisory gained both in the Americas and internationally
  • 10 years of experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in design management for large-scale infrastructure projects, with majority of experience on rail systems engineering, infrastructure, and/or transit station projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Proven record in delivery of large multi-disciplinary planning and/or design projects
  • Experience with design, procurement and construction of major transit stations including multimodal interchanges
  • Experience in working for both prime clients (Owners) and Design and Build Contractors in the delivery of major rail projects in the Americas and internationally is preferred
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of project and client team organizations, with excellent team and client relationship skills
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada (P.Eng).

Toronto Hiring Range

The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $190,000 to $200,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note, hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
