Overview A one-time tri-agency initiative led by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Canada Impact+ Research Chairs program aims to bring leading international researchers to Canada to build research capacity and generate strong economic, social, and policy impacts. The University of Regina invites applications for Canada Impact+ Research Chairs (Impact+), a new tri-agency initiative designed to attract world-leading researchers to Canada who will advance high-impact research with transformative social, economic, and policy outcomes. The Impact+ program supports institutions in recruiting outstanding international scholars whose work addresses critical global and national challenges
Successful Impact+ Chairs will receive substantial funding through the Government of Canada, valued at $8M (or $4M) over eight years, with potential for a four-year 50 % funded extension. These funding levels reflect the program’s commitment to supporting ambitious research teams and knowledge translation pathways that benefit Canada and the world. (Canada)

Position Description We seek exceptional researchers with a demonstrated international record of excellence and leadership whose work aligns with one or more of the strategic priority areas above. The Chairholder will:
  • Lead a visionary, world-class research program that addresses critical challenges with measurable societal impact.
  • Form and mentor a dynamic research team, including trainees and postdoctoral scholars.
  • Develop partnerships across sectors (academic, industry, government, community organizations, and Indigenous communities where appropriate) to accelerate translation, policy uptake, commercialization, and scalable solutions.
  • Contribute to the research and academic mission of the University through teaching, graduate supervision, and service.
Position Requirements Qualifications
Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria of the Canada Impact+ Research Chairs program, including:
  • Internationally based (working and residing outside Canada) at the time of the program intake application deadline.
  • Exceptional research accomplishments with significant potential for continued impact.
  • Qualifications for appointment at the University of Regina at the rank of Full Professor or Associate Professor with a clear trajectory to Full Professor.
  • Demonstrated expertise in an area aligned with strategic priority areas and evidence of success in advancing research translation, partnerships, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Commitment to mentoring and training the next generation of researchers.

Additional Information This Faculty position is contingent upon the nominee being awarded an Impact+ Chair through the program’s peer review process
The position is also subject to the availability of funding and to final approval by the University President and Vice-Chancellor and the Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secretariat (TIPS) The Impact+ Chair is tenable for eight years, subject to the chairholder fulfilling their reporting and evaluation requirements. The chair will be evaluated by external reviewers and TIPS by the end of Year 7 to determine whether an additional four-year funded extension is warranted. The amount of additional funds released for each extended Chair is set at 50% of the original award annual value. The successful candidate will be appointed to an appropriate academic unit at the University and will hold a tenured faculty rank (Full Professor, or Associate Professor with promotion to Full Professor within two years)
