The Opportunity:
Are you a seasoned Heavy Equipment Operator looking for a new challenge? As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be an integral member of Canadian Natural’s Mining team at our Horizon site and contribute to the successful movement of oil sands at Horizon. In this role, you will operate many types of heavy equipment, including dozers, graders, scrapers, backhoes, excavators, and haul trucks. You will ensure efficient and reliable equipment operation while promoting safety on site.
- Job location: Horizon Site - Fort McMurray, Alberta
- Shift schedule: 7 days on, 7 off, 7 nights on, 7 days off, 12-hour shift; rotation starts on Wednesday
- Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:
- Operate single or multiple pieces of equipment, which could include:
- 16’ to 24’ blade width graders
- Dozers - D11, D10 - Komatsu 375, 475 experience will be considered
- Backhoe – EX 800, EX1800, EX 2000, EX 3600 or equivalent
- Loaders – 988, 992 – Letourneau loader experience will be considered
- Haul Truck 793, 797, 930, and Liebherr
- Hydraulic and/or electric shovel
- Operate all equipment safely and efficiently
- Work with minimal supervision
- Keep accurate production records
- Maintain equipment integrity
- Follow instructions from operations
What You Bring to the Role:
- Minimum 1 year of related equipment experience in the mining industry, 2 + years is preferred
- GED, High School Diploma, or equivalent
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Familiarity with and understanding of:
- Operating a mechanical or electric haul truck in a mining environment
- Operating heavy equipment, including: loaders, dozers, and graders
